After residency, Dr. Cindy took a position in a large practice group. She had good training, good intentions, and eight minutes per patient.
She could diagnose. She could prescribe. She could not know anyone.
In 2019, she left the group practice. She opened Prickly Pear Family Medicine in Houston Heights — a membership practice where each patient is a person whose name she knows before the chart opens.
The name came from the neighborhood, and from something her grandmother kept in a terracotta pot on the porch. It grows here. So does this practice.
Prickly Pear is for the family who wants one doctor who knows them. For the small business owner who cannot afford 11am appointments. For the neighbor who speaks Spanish and has been waiting for a doctor who doesn't make that feel like a service upgrade.
The waitlist is real. The wait is worth it.
